As the head of the influential label Exit Records, dBridge has revitalized drum ’n’ bass over the past two decades with a minimalist aesthetic. Joining him for this edition of REEF is Alix Perez, whose imprint, 1985 Music, is considered the epicenter for the evolution of deep, soulful drum ’n’ bass. His selection stands out for its keen sense of hypnotic sub-basses and techno-inspired, minimalist grooves. At Panorama Bar, the focus shifts toward hybrid club formats. Here, the Brussels-based multi-talent Le Motel stands out, performing alongside the Nigerian rapper Magugu. Le Motel’s productions blend footwork, kuduro and hip-hop rhythms into a polyrhythmic tapestry that gains a raw, extremely physical live energy through Magugu’s incisive rap in the Pidgin dialect. Carré, co-founder of the London label Fast At Work, will also be spinning. Her sound breaks away from classic house and techno patterns, fusing them with the hyperactive energy of UK garage, bleeps and fast, percussive breaks.
