Fred Ventura, one of the defining voices of Italo disco, will be appearing at this edition of the Italorama Bar. In the 80s, the Milanese producer and singer defined the emotional core of Italo pop with melancholic, melody-driven releases such as “Wind of Change.” Musically, his live sets move with stylistic confidence from the cool aesthetic of New Order to the driving Hi-NRG dynamics of Bobby Orlando. Rotterdam-based producer Alden Tyrell, on the other hand, approaches the genre from the mechanical, rougher West Coast electro perspective. His releases on Clone and Viewlexx are considered fundamental links between European synth music and early Chicago toughness. His live set is based on chugging analog sequences and hypnotic, dubby basslines that shed all naivety in favor of functional club structures. Michel Amato aka The Hacker looks back on a decades-long love of new wave, EBM, and electro. In his DJ sets, the Frenchman extracts the genre’s dark, dystopian nuances, often combined with uncompromising electro tracks. Melanie Havens, rooted in Berlin’s post-punk and wave underground, blends raw synth-wave anthems with percussive intensity, while Furotica completes the continuum with eclectic influences and rare first-generation Italo gems.
