- - - English version below - - - Mute Records, eines der weltweit wichtigsten Labels elektronischer Popmusik und Daniel Millers Baby, bringt und im Juni eine kleine Version des Londoner Short Circuit Festivals nach Berlin – und präsentiert dabei in der Kantine am Berghain vier neue Bands. Die Band S.C.U.M. um Thomas Cohen und Sam Kilcoyne, der Sohn von Barry 7 (Add N TO (X).), klingen wie eine zeitgemäße Version von Joy Division gekreuzt mit dem Pop-Appeal von Hurts in einer Echo Kammer. Kurz: Dunkel und majestätisch. BETH JEANS HOUGHTON wurde zuletzt vom Wire Magazin als »really cool piece of neu-volk invention« bezeichnet. Weirder und gleichzeitig poppiger klang Folk niemals. Ob Folk dabei aber überhaupt der geeignete Terminus ist …? BIG DEAL, ein wahnsinnig tolles amerikanisch-englisches Gitarrenduo, warten mit Boy/Girl-Harmonien und einem wunderschön-verschrobenen Songwriting auf. Eröffnet wird die Mute-Nacht von MAIKE ROSA VOGEL. Die Attribute des Fräuleinwunders des Folk, des Minnesangs, Schwan und Lohengrin zugleich werden Maike Rosa Vogel zugeschrieben. Live wird die Berliner Künstlerin barfuß und Zopf tragend an der Akustikgitarre sehen. Zudem legen gewisse, namentlich noch nicht genannt werden wollende Mute-DJs auf. Als besondere Aufmerksamkeit wird Mute den ersten 30 zahlenden Gästen des Abends die unlängst für den britischen Record Store Day erschienene Compilation »Vorwärts« schenken. Darauf enthalten fast ausschließlich bis dato unveröffentlichtes Material von Grinderman, Yeasayer, Josh T. Pearson, Big Deal, S.C.U.M., Can, Liars, Mick Harvey u.v.a. S.C.U.M., formed around Thomas Cohen and Sam Kilcoyne (son of Add N To (X) musician Barry 7) sound like a contemporary version of Joy Division blended with the echo chambered pop appeal of Hurts. As long as Folk ist even the proper description for her music … BIG DEAL, a great american-english guitar outfit, will open up the night with gorgeous and cranky boy/girl harmonies. Opening act will be MAIKE ROSA VOGEL. She’s being praised as the ›Fräuleinwunder‹ of folk and minnesong, as swan and Lohegrin in personal union. The Berlin based artist will be playing the acoustic guitar barfooted and sporting a pigtail. Besides that, several surprise Mute Djs will be spinning records, so expect the usual suspects behind the turntables. As a special treat Mute records will be giving away copies of the Record Store Day compilation »Vorwärts« to the first 30 paying guests, the record features previously unreleased material by Grinderman, Yeasayer, Josh T.
